Kathleen Mand-Beck and Tom Mand — owners of the Dovetail Gallery in Egg Harbor — in March of last year offered the majority of their 20-year-plus collection of decorated and wild bird eggs for permanent display at the community center, upon their planned retirement late this year.
Mand-Beck Monday told the board a collection of “close to 100 Humpty Dumptys” has now been offered to the village by a couple who plan to sell their Egg Harbor condominium.
“Humptys are eggs,” Mand-Beck said, and would be “appropriate to the village.” The donor has offered to pay for packing and storing the items, pending construction of the new building, she said.
“That’s about the coolest, quirkiest thing I’ve seen,” said Village President Joe Smith.
A formal vote to accept the donation is expected at the board’s next meeting in September.
